Madrid 2024: Where Elite Sports Medicine Meets Global Leadership
The International Summit on Elite Sports Medicine and Performance returned to Madrid on March 20–21, 2024, drawing the global elite of sports medicine to one of Europe's most influential hubs. Hosted by Fútbol Doctors Network (FDN) and supported by leading institutions such as HM Hospitales and Real Madrid, the two-day event featured more than 30 speakers from across elite football clubs, U.S. leagues, and cutting-edge medical institutions.
From emergency on-field care and mental health in elite athletes to surgical best practices, performance anatomy, and business strategy in sports, the summit covered a uniquely multidisciplinary scope. Keynotes included Dr. Gary O'Driscoll (Manchester United), Dr. Niko Mihic (Real Madrid), Dr. José María Villalón (Atlético de Madrid), and Dr. Chris Ahmad (New York Yankees), among others.
Day one focused on clinical excellence—emergency interventions, injury prevention, daily care protocols, and the rising importance of conservative treatment approaches. Day two expanded into broader territory: the role of innovation, community health, mental well-being, and how clubs can transform medical excellence into organizational leadership.
The Innovation World Cup Lightning Round brought future-forward startups to the stage, while panels emphasized the global shift toward holistic, collaborative, and data-driven care for athletes. Whether through cutting-edge echocardiography, surgical insights, or mental health support, every session pointed to one truth: the future of sports medicine is as much about people and purpose as it is about precision.
Madrid 2024 not only showcased what’s possible when top-tier minds meet—it set a new benchmark for how elite sports organizations care for their most valuable asset: the athlete.
