Tokyo 2025
The 2025 Sports Doctors Network Conference marked a historic milestone as it was held for the first time in Asia — at the iconic Yasuda Auditorium of The University of Tokyo. The event brought together Nobel Prize leaders, elite sports doctors, Olympic champions, astronauts, and researchers from across the globe to explore the next frontier of sports medicine, space health, and public wellness.
Agenda
On June 24, 2025, the Sports Doctors Network proudly co-hosted the Tokyo edition of its international conference series, held at the prestigious Yasuda Auditorium at The University of Tokyo. Under the theme "Bringing Cutting-Edge Sports Medicine to All," the event convened some of the world’s most distinguished minds — from Nobel Foundation leadership and elite sports team doctors to astronauts, economists, and national sports icons.
This was more than a medical conference. It was a multidisciplinary dialogue on how the breakthroughs in elite performance, longevity science, and even space medicine can be translated into better health outcomes for all.
Key Themes & Highlights
- Koji Murofushi, Olympic gold medalist and Commissioner of the Japan Sports Agency, opened the conference with an inspiring keynote on the evolving role of sports in public health
- A special keynote by Professor Carl-Henrik Heldin, Chairman of the Nobel Foundation, explored the intersection of Nobel-level science and everyday wellbeing
- Space medicine and translational care: How astronaut health protocols are redefining what’s possible in sports and general medicine
- Elite medicine for the general public: Insights from the Chief Medical Advisors of Real Madrid and the LA Lakers
- Performance science from new angles: Discussions on oral health, gut microbiota, sleep, and presymptomatic medicine for longer, healthier lives
- Contributions from top researchers at Harvard Medical School, Japanese health experts, and professionals from global sport institutions
Japanese visionaries joined the dialogue, including astronaut Naoko Yamazaki, economist Yusuke Narita, tennis legend Kimiko Date, football star Keita Suzuki, and broadcaster Christel Takigawa. Together, they highlighted the human side of science and the cultural context behind health and performance.
A Historic Gathering
This was the first SDN conference to be held in Japan — and in all of Asia — opening a new chapter in international medical collaboration. The atmosphere at The University of Tokyo was charged with purpose, reflecting the spirit of East-meets-West innovation.
With simultaneous translation, media coverage, and a vibrant cross-section of attendees — from alumni of Harvard and Tokyo University to young medical students and veteran practitioners — the event became a platform for the global democratization of elite health knowledge.
